2020

Updated: Aug 26, 2020

Two years ago for my birthday, July 6, 2018, I had my astrological chart read at Rosalie Botanicals. I have always been peripherally interested in the role of the universe as related to my relatively small existence, and I felt as though I was on the verge of some kind of change. Whether or not you buy into astrology, sitting with an empath for a length of time is an excellent way to process how you relate to a larger picture. Christiane at Rosalie Botanicals is highly in tune with the heavens and earth, and I trusted her implicitly when she said something big was going to shift in 2020. My idea of that settled on a goal of spending more time in New England and developing my exit strategy from the bar world.

As two years passed I worked diligently towards this goal. I focused on my herbalism studies, retired from the graveyard shifts at my beloved Black Penny in favor of working the sleepy day shift on Tuesdays, started practicing yoga on the regular, and spent a lot of time considering the human I wanted to become. When my bar regulars would inquire after why I chose to study herbalism my response became almost scripted, "I'm tired of poisoning people professionally, I'd like to help people to live their best lives." When you say something so often, you can allow yourself to become numb to its meaning. For two years I said that phrase almost inertly as I continued my studies. Often I would forget my motivation and my passion for the material, and fall behind on my assignments. Upon completing each assignment I would feel unburdened, and a fresh wave of passion fueled me just enough to move to the next chapter. I knew what I wanted, but was easily distracted from the why.

Then came the big change I had been waiting for. I never would have imagined it would come packaged as a global pandemic. Covid 19 is a disaster that no one (except maybe New Zealand) was prepared for. Personally I spent the first 60 days with frayed nerves, IBS, and manic compulsions to accomplish house projects. We are all coping in different ways, and the correct way to adjust is that there is no single right answer. Remain calm, find things that bring joy, and do your best to keep your immune system strong! My animals, garden, daily yoga practice, Rescue Remedy, and international virtual support system have been keeping me sane. With this abundance of quiet, I have been able to rekindle my passion for wellness with my whole heart. I hope that we come out of this more mindful than ever, and I hope that we can all accept that "normal" is constantly being redefined. There is no "new normal," there is only new. This is exciting! And scary! At times, overwhelming... but just remember to come back to your breath.

What am I working on now? I've completed my Certificate in Wellness Consulting from the American College of Healthcare Sciences, and now I'm starting a business! Take a look around here and see for yourself! My passion is thoughtfully crafting herbal formulas and placing them where they can be most beneficial. I will be offering wellness coaching and consultation sessions to all that are ready to make a change in their lives, if finances are an issue please do not let that stop you from booking. I will offer my services to anyone in need.
